Jets drop series-deciding game
The Soo Eagles took the rubber game of their three-game set with the Janesville Jets on Monday.
Janesville’s Alex Shuchuk opened the scoring at 3:02 of the second period with an assist from Jesse Junttila. The Jets would go on the power play shortly after after Soo’s Michael Caruso got two minutes for slashing, but Chase Matson scored a short-handed goal for the Eagles to tie the game.
Denver Pierce grabbed the game-winner with 1:55 left in the second frame. Janesville would pull goaltender Logan Halladay, who finished with 40 saves, to try and draw level at the end of the game, but Soo’s Nick Belger hit the empty net with 1:25 to go in the game.
Nathan Klebe, who allowed three quick Janesville goals Sunday, only saw 27 total shots on his goal, turning away all but Shuchuk’s tally.
