Area basketball: Milton boys win; Brodhead girls now 14-0

A big second half carried Milton High's boys basketball team to a win Saturday afternoon.

The Red Hawks scored 38 points in the second half, including 24 in the fourth quarter, en route to the 62-57 Badger Conference crossover win over DeForest.

Drew Johnson had 16 points to lead Milton (5-9), which made 10 free throws in the fourth.

• Big Foot 65, Delavan-Darien 61 (OT)—The Chiefs erased an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime, where they eventually beat the Comets in nonconference action Saturday night.

Isiah Ramos made a pair of 3-pointers for Delavan-Darien to help build the lead, but Big Foot chipped away to tie it. Neither team could capitalize on chances to win in regulation.

In overtime, Big Foot's Austin Hoey hit his only three-point basket of the game to give the Chiefs a three-point lead they would not relinquish.

The Comets had four players in double figures with William Brown leading the way with 18, 15 of those on five 3-pointers.

Nate Freytag and Nico Tovar made for a productive combination for the Chiefs, combining for 40 of the team's 65 points. Freytag led all scorers with 22.

Brodhead girls go to 14-0

The Brodhead High girls basketball team continues to roll.

The second-ranked Cardinals, behind 18 points from University of Iowa recruit Carly Mohns, coasted past Jefferson, 68-45, in a Rock Valley Conference crossover game Saturday afternoon.

Brodhead (14-0, 9-0) scored 43 points in the first half in racing out to a 19-point lead.

Kylie Moe added 14 points for Brodhead, Meg Duffield had 11 and Amber Pickel finished with 10.

Brodhead hosts Whitewater (11-2) in a key Rock Valley crossover game Thursday night.
