JANESVILLE—An early 12-0 deficit put Janesville Parker’s girls basketball team in a big hole Friday night.

Elizabeth Norregaard buried them after that.

The Middleton High junior unloaded on the Vikings for 32 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead the Cardinals to a 62-36 Big Eight Conference win.

Parker had no answer for Norregaard, a transfer student from Denmark, or for the Cardinals’ vaunted full-court pressure defense.

“There’s really not much to say,” Parker coach Tom Klawitter said. “I thought they came out way more ready to play than we were, and there’s no excuse for that.

“They played the perfect game, and because they are so physical on defense and they were allowed to play that way all game, it plays right into their hands.”

Parker (7-8, 6-5) trailed 12-0 before fans even had a chance to settle in. Norregaard started the game with a 3-pointer on Middleton’s first possession and ended the 12-0 run with her second 3 with 6:01 left in the opening quarter.

The Vikings finally got on the board on Kathryn Dubanowich’s bucket with 5:21 left in the first, but a 9-6 run to end the first pushed the Cardinals lead to 21-8. Parker would get no closer than 12 after that.

First-place Middleton (13-2, 11-0) started the second half with a 12-2 run to put the game out of reach. Norregaard hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 46-21 with 3:47 left in the third.

“You can’t give her room and you can’t go behind screens to try and get to her, and that’s what we did,” Klawitter said of Norregaard, who had 11 points against Parker in the first meeting of the season. “But with some of those shots, there’s really nothing you can do about it.”

Paige Smith, who came in as the third-leading scorer in conference, led Parker with 10 points but had only two field goals. The Vikings were 7-for-43 shooting the first three quarters and had nearly as many turnovers (7) as points (8) in the first quarter.

Parker hosts Beloit Memorial on Thursday night.
