MADISON—A slow start and missed free throws proved too tough to overcome Friday night for Janesville Parker’s boys basketball team.

The Vikings fell behind by 16 at half and misfired on 15 of 34 free throws in an 82-58 Big Eight Conference loss at Madison La Follette.

Parker (3-9, 1-8) got within eight in the second half but could not dig out of the early hole.

“We missed some early shots and some free throws and that was the difference,” Parker coach Ryan Masterson said. “Once we settled down and ran our offense, we executed pretty well. And they really hurt us on the glass with 16 offensive rebounds.

“The effort was much better tonight on both ends of the court than Tuesday against Craig.”

Junior guard Darold Thomas had 26 points to lead La Follette (5-6 in the Big Eight) and Maurice Ewing added 13.

Adam Thompson had 13 points to pace Parker. Cullen Osmond chipped in 12.

Parker plays at Middleton next Saturday.
