Parker wins, Craig falls in close Big Eight gymnastics duals

Hailey Leisten and the Janesville Parker gymnastics team picked up a big win Thursday night.

Leisten won four events and the all-around to lead Parker to a 124.15-124.075 Big Eight win over Verona.

“I’m really proud of the team tonight,” Parker first-year coach Heidi Jegerlehner said. “This just goes to show that every little bit counts.

“This was our best team score of the season, and we still have an injured Brecklyn Skaleski waiting to get back in action starting next week. Hailey had a fantastic meet.”

Leisten’s all-around score of 35.0 was a personal best for this season.

Parker competes at the Purgolder Invitational in Madison on Saturday.

n Middleton gymnasts edge Craig—The Cougars came up less than half a point short in their Big Eight Conference loss to the Cardinals.

Gabrielle Geller won floor exercise and finished second in the all-around for Craig, which fell to 0-2 in the conference.

“This was our first dual meet since the Christmas break, and the girls came back very strong,” Craig coach Jean Welch said. “We were very pleased to reach the 130 (point) mark and hope to keep moving up.

“Gabrielle Geller and Sara Malmanger had really solid nights for us, and everybody has been working hard and it is paying off in our scores.”

Craig competes at the Purgolder Invitational on Saturday.
