Take a look back at 2013 through CSI Media staff photographer Terry Mayer's pictures:

June saw the closing of a 55-year-old institution in Elkhorn--St. Patrick Parish School. St. Patrick's pastor, the Rev. Oriol Regales, said the decision to close was a difficult one, but financially, the school couldn't be supported.

A major fire in January at Echo Lake Foods plant in Burlington—one of the area's largest employers—resulted in no injuries, but displaced some 300 workers. Nearly a year later, the plant is still in the process of rebuilding.

Ordinances on raising backyard chickens are being adopted in 2013 for more area municipalities, such as Whitewater, as residents become concerned about issues such as environmental sustainability and safe food sources.
