Kudos and thanks to our US Postal Service!
I learned from a good friend that our local post office in Edgerton went the extra miles to deliver every single package which arrived at that post office through Christmas Eve day so every single package was delivered before Christmas. That deserves commendation and gratitude! What do YOU think?
Reading various reports, I have learned that this was the story of CONSCIENTIOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE throughout the US Postal Service last Tuesday, December 24 so that the USPS delivered Christmas packages ON TIME, including 75,000 on CHRISTMAS DAY!
I base my comments re. the national USPS situation on Tom Blumer’s article, “Somehow, UPS-Fedex Christmas Snafus Make the U.S. Post Office Look Good” published by Bloomberg Businessweek. I think you will gain information and appreciation for our often maligned USPS by reading this article. I confess, I was informed and gained appreciation for our USPS.
I do not agree with Blumer’s comparison of UPS and FedEx as profitable corporations cited our USPS as running deficits. ONLY the USPS has to serve ALL of us – WE THE PEOPLE of the US! Our USPS goes where NO OTHER DELIVERY SERVICE goes serving ALL of us!
The founders had a very significant awareness of the value of communications when they put the “Postal Clause” into the US Constitution of 1787. The Postal Clause has been identified as one of the enumerated powers of Congress along with lay and collect taxes, borrow on the credit of the US, declare War, raise and support Armies, Provide and maintain a Navy. The enumerated powers are listed in Article I, Section 8 of our US Constitution. If you want to read the list, I suggest Wikipedia’s article, “Enumerated powers.”
I admit that my awareness had been the fact that UPS and FedEx missed the CHRISTMAS DEADLINE! The media was FILLED with those reports. One of those was CBS News’ “UPS, FedEx scrambling to deliver later Christmas packages.”
I was NOT aware of the OUTstanding work of our US Postal Service until my friend told me about the CONSCIENTIOUS WORK to deliver the last packages out of our EDGERTON POST OFFICE! I am sure that action took place in the post offices throughout our area. Can YOU add to the testimony of this OUTstanding customer service by our USPS?
For full disclosure, I need to report that I have always had a VERY STRONG LOVE for MAIL! I grew up with daily excitement for the arrival of the mail. In fact, one summer I worked on a farm near my home in OH. We were rushing to get the hay in before rain since the clouds promised rain. Bringing a wagon load of hay into the farmstead, I stopped to check the mail. I was HOPING for a letter from home. My boss, the farmer, gave me a TONGUE LASHING for wasting those minutes because of the impending rain. For me, checking the mail was a lot more important than the hay! Live and learn.
The USPS is a critical service for ALL of us – WE THE PEOPLE of the US! I use email a great deal, but I believe we MUST maintain the services of our USPS. What do YOU think?
