JANESVILLE—Identity thieves love senior citizens, and identity theft is the fastest-growing crime in the country.

The Janesville Police Department is offering to help seniors take a bite out of that crime.

The free presentation by police and the state Office of Privacy Protection is set for 8-9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Janesville Senior Center, 69 S. Water St. Refreshments will be served.

The presentation will cover safety, telemarketing fraud, medical fraud, identity theft and foreign lottery/Internet fraud.

“Our primary focus is educating consumers on how to monitor and safeguard their personal information by keeping it safe from identity thieves,” according to the police department's news release.

Participants are asked to register for the presentation by Monday, Dec. 9, by calling 608-755-3040.
