Two-car crash in Lyons kills Lake Geneva man
TOWN OF LYONS -- A Lake Geneva man was killed and two people from Illinois were hospitalized following a two car, head-on crash on Wisconsin Highway 120, north of Prairie Road in the town of Lyons shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday, according to a release from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.
According to initial investigation, Jeffrey D. Peiffer, 52, of Lake Geneva, was driving a 2013 Nissan Sentra southbound on Wisconsin Highway 120 north of Prairie Road when he crossed the center line and struck a Chrysler 300 going northbound on Highway 120, driven by Wolfgang H. Schubert, 69, of Wauconda, Ill.
Peiffer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by the Walworth County Coroner. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Schubert was taken by Flight for Life with critical injuries to Aurora Medical Center in Summit. A passenger in the Chrysler, Rosalina L. Deinlein, 40, of Morton Grove, Ill., was taken by ambulance to Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn with unknown injuries.
According to the release, the road was closed for four hours while the accident was being investigated.
