Darien house fire under investigation
VILLAGE OF DARIEN—The cause of a fire early Saturday morning at a village of Darien home is unknown, Darien Fire Chief Justin Schuenke said.
The Darien Fire Department responded to the fire at the unoccupied home, 214 N. Wisconsin St., at 4:30 a.m. and found smoke and flames coming from a basement window. The fire later spread to an outside wall of the home.
The fire began in the basement and caused significant structural damage to the inside of the home, Schuenke said. The damages are estimated at $80,000.
Neighboring fire departments assisted the Darien Fire Department in controlling the fire. Fire trucks finally left the scene between 10 and 11 a.m., Schuenke said.
The Walworth County Arson Task Force and the Delavan Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
