Clinton, Palmyra-Eagle, Beloit win basketball openers

The second quarter was the difference Tuesday night for Beloit Memorial's boys basketball team.

Trailing by one, the Purple Knights outscored the Red Hawks 22-7 in the second quarter en route to a 76-65 win in the nonconference season-opener for both teams.

Blake Farr led three Beloit players in double figures with 19 points, while Denzel Barnes added 16.

Connor Bowen of Milton led all scorers with 21, including five three-point baskets. Tyler Westrick added 15 for the Red Hawks and Drew Johnson chipped in 12.

The two teams combined for 51 fouls, and Beloit finished 22-of-28 from the free-throw line.

Milton plays at Waterford on Friday night.

n Palmyra-Eagle 53, University Lake 36—The host Panthers pulled away in the second half for the nonconference win.

Nate Behr had 16 points to lead Palmyra-Eagle and Bryce Boos added 12.

n Clinton 50, Delavan-Darien 47—The host Cougars erased an 11-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Comets 33-19 in the second half.

Delavan-Darien trailed by six after one quarter but used a 23-6 advantage in the second quarter to take a 28-17 halftime lead.
