November 5, 2013

Summer temperatures prevailed through most of September and October, and the Coats for Kids project was very low on donations. With only a few days left for collections, the Janesville School District sent an Alert Now SOS message to every student’s home, and The Gazette and WCLO shared our plea for winter wear. Donations started coming in, Choice Cleaners began dry-cleaning dozens of coats, and we received financial contributions from across the community to help us buy the coats we still needed.

Because of the tremendous generosity of North Rock County citizens, we were able to serve over 900 adults and children with over 4,000 warm winter wear items, including 865 coats! This was our biggest distribution ever!

We sincerely thank our loyal sponsors, Tom Upham (Choice Cleaners), Dan Stubbendick (Dan’s Creston Park Laundry), and Darlene DeZeeuw (Commercial Bank). We appreciate the outstanding promotion of CFK by the school district, The Gazette, WCLO, Babcock Signs, Lamar Signs and the Messenger. We gratefully acknowledge all of the businesses, churches, and schools (in Janesville, Milton, Orfordville, Footville) that accepted barrels for collections. We thank the CHS Spanish Honor Society students, the principals, staff, students and all of you who brought in those donations throughout the coat drive. We thank The Salvation Army staff, the Workenders, our loyal knitters, and the amazing, hardworking, committed Women’s Auxiliary. Thank you, and God bless you, for always coming through for Coats for Kids!
