Swimming against Middleton with a short-handed squad is not a recommended way to go.

The Janesville Craig girls swimming team had to do that Friday night, with the predictable results.

Middleton defeated the visiting Cougars, 112.5-57.5, to drop Craig to 2-5 in the Big Eight.

“We held our own,” Craig coach Brian Kitzman aid. “To score as many points as we did against Middleton, we did well. We were very tired because we had a hard week of practice and the illness and injury bug bit us this week.

“We had to battle through that.”

Middleton is ranked third in the state and leads the Big Eight.

The Cougars are off until next Friday when they take on Parker in the Vikings’ pool.

• Sun Prairie 129, Parker 41—Second-place finishes by Hailey Lesiten and Jana Burner were the highlights for the Vikings in a Big Eight dual meet against visiting Sun Prairie on Friday.

Parker coach Meghan Bartel said the meet was more about meeting individual goals and setting new personal bests, and by that standard, the Vikings accomplished what they wanted despite the final point tally.
