MILTON—Milton High's football team doesn't see much of the wishbone offense in the Badger South Conference.

After Reedsburg tore up the Milton defense for 408 yards rushing Friday night, the Red Hawks are hoping to never see it again.

The Badger North powerhouse Beavers jumped out to an early 21-0 lead and cruised to the 48-19 crossover win.

Milton, which fell to 2-5 overall, took some positives from the game. The Red Hawks, behind 189 yards rushing from Taylor Snell, finished with 336 yards on the ground and cut a 22-point deficit down to a two-possession game late in the third.

“We gave up way too many big plays against a team that is very tough to come back on,” Milton coach Bill O'Leary said. “And that's something that has bothered us all season.

“It was really a gut-check by our kids at half, and I thought they really came out and played hard the second half. I'm very proud of them for the effort. We just came up short against a very good football team.”

Milton trailed 21-0 in the second but got on the board with just over five minutes left in the half on Snell's 17-yard scoring run. The Red Hawks had a chance to keep it close going into the locker room, but the Beavers scored on the last play of the first half on Dylan Peterson's 43-yard TD run.

The Red Hawks sliced the lead to 28-12 on Snell's 75-yard scamper on the first play of the second half, but the Beavers (6-1) responded with Lucas Muchow's third rushing touchdown of the game.

“All I wanted from our team was 48 minutes of effort, and I felt like I got that,” O'Leary said. “You're not going to win every time, but you can always give a great effort, and our kids did that tonight.

“We knew looking at the schedule we had back-to-back tough games coming up with Reedsburg and Monona Grove. And we still have a chance to finish at least .500 in the Badger South, so we will continue to work hard and get after it.”
