MADISON—A trooper from Janesville is among 21 Wisconsin State Patrol officers honored during a ceremony at the state Capitol this week.

After hearing about a man who was not breathing and didn't have a pulse at the Beloit Wal-Mart last November, Sgt. Eric S. Beine went to the store and helped provide emergency medical care for the man, according to a news release.

Beine and a Wal-Mart pharmacist continued their potentially lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived and gave the man a dose of Narcan to counteract the drug overdose he had suffered, the release said.

Gov. Scott Walker presented Beine with the Lifesaving Award at a ceremony Wednesday.

Beine, who is based at the State Patrol's DeForest post, received the same award two years ago for his role in stopping a suicide attempt.
