Rock Valley roundup: Edgerton clinches playoff spot

Edgerton High’s football team punched its playoff ticket Friday night.

Thanks to 304 yards rushing and five touchdowns from Ricky Williams, the Crimson Tide erased East Troy, 63-26, in a Rock Valley North Conference game.

Edgerton improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the Rock North in earning a third straight playoff berth.

Williams, who is second in the state in rushing, gave Edgerton an early 14-0 lead with scoring runs from 15 and 14 yards.

East Troy’s Brandon Matz, who is second in the state in touchdown passes and yards passing, finished with 315 yards passing and two touchdowns.

• Jefferson 35, Evansville/Albany 20—Jefferson rushed for 332 yards to down host Evansville-Albany on the Blue Devils’ homecoming.

The Eagles (5-1 overall, 3-1 RVC North) pulled away from a 14-7 lead in the second quarter.

Garrett Blaeske carried 32 times for 175 yards with a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs.

Garrett Ebert added 136 yards on 24 carries, including a 12-yard scoring run.

Isaiah Shell led the Blue Devils (3-3, 2-2). Shell returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and rushed twice for 61 yards. Shell and Grant Schoenenberger each caught two passes for 40 yards.

• Big Foot 42, Clinton 12—Big Foot broke a scoreless tie with 21 second-quarter points en route to its 46th straight Rock Valley Conference win at Clinton.

The victory clinched a playoff berth for the Chiefs.

Tim Long, Gus Wedig and Brandon Hausner each scored two touchdowns for Big Foot (6-0 overall, 3-0 RVC South).

Long scored on runs of 2 and 11 yards; Wedig caught scoring passes of 4 and 13 yards from Brett Morris, and Hausner ran 14 and 8 yards for scores.

Long led the Chiefs’ 445-yard rushing attack with 247 yards on 29 carries. Hausner added 131 yards on 18 carries.

Clinton quarterback Derek Severson threw touchdown passes to Eric DeLong and Marc Eliszewski. The Cougars fell to 3-3, 1-2.

• Brodhead/Juda 19, Palmyra-Eagle 13—Derek Turner and Jordan Douglas each scored on fourth-quarter touchdown runs to rally Brodhead/Juda past upset-minded Palmyra-Eagle.

The Panthers (2-4 overall, 1-2 RVC South) took a 13-6 lead early in the fourth quarter when Brett Knoebel scored on a 1-yard run. Knoebel finished with 52 yards on 16 carries.

The Cardinals (5-1, 3-0) responded with Turner’s 1-yard run with 5:19 left in the game to tie the score at 13-all. Douglas then went 50 yards for a score at the 2:22 mark.

Douglas finished with 62 yards on seven carries.

Brock Woodman led Turner (2-4, 1-2) with 181 yards on 28 carries.

Hunter Marshall rushed 12 times for 142 yards for the Vikings (0-6, 0-3).
