Discover Whitewater offers a host of race and post-race activities

WHITEWATER--The Greater Whitewater Committee is sponsoring an inaugural Discover Whitewater Series on Sun., Sept. 22, featuring a half marathon, half marathon rely, 5k and Fit Kid Shuffle through Whitewater.

Along with a wide array of racing events, several pre-race and post-race events will be open to runners and the general public.

Here's a rundown of activities:

Saturday, Sept. 21:
Carnival, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Whitewater Aquatic Center, 580 S. Elizabeth St.

Pasta dinner and race expo, 5 to 8 p.m., Hamilton Center, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus, 800 W. Main St. The dinner/expo offers both race participants and spectators the opportunity to converse with others and learn more about the courses.

Sunday, Sept. 22:
The Whitewater Breakfast, Kiwanis Club's annual pancake breakfast, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Whitewater High School, 534 S. Elizabeth St.

Whitewater Aquatic Center will open early to allow use for participants and spectators.

Lakefront Pub, 111 W. Whitewater St., opens at 9 a.m. Each race participant will receive a $5 voucher to use at the Lakefront Pub.

Post-race events at the finish line area include a rock-climbing wall, music, food, beverages and more.

Onsite registration will begin at 6 a.m. race day at the Whitewater High School.
Proceeds from the series will go to five local organizations: Whitewater Unified School
District, Bethel House, UWW Athletics, W3 (wellness organization) and the Whitewater Aquatic Center.
