United Way to kick off fundraising campaign with Day of Caring
BELOIT—After United Way Blackhawk Region kicks off its 2013 fundraising campaign Wednesday morning at the Eclipse Center, more than 400 volunteers from 20 local businesses will drive to communities throughout Rock County and northern Winnebago County in Illinois to work on community service projects for 27 nonprofit organizations.
"It's doing something nice for someone, and that's what this program is all about," said 2013 Campaign Chairman Tom Spilde, Janesville, about the Day of Caring event.
Projects range from carpet cleaning to painting to yard work to fence building to helping at a wheel chair square dance.
Activities begin with a 7 a.m. breakfast buffet and continue with a 7:30 a.m. program that will include:

Pledges of more than $2.74 million that pushed the campaign to 98 percent of the $2.8 million goal in 2012 will springboard United Way Blackhawk Region into successfully reaching this year's goal, he said.
