Craig, Parker lose in Big Eight girls swim

Sierra Rhodes won the 400 freestyle but it was Janesville Craig's only win in a Big Eight Conference girls dual meet against Verona.

The Wildcats won 10 of 11 events in posting a 130-40 victory over the Cougars.

Rhodes, a junior, won the 400 freestyle in 4:59.70.

“Sierra took charge early and swam a great race,” Craig coach Brian Kitzman said. “Her goal was to finish under five minutes and she did.

“And Alexis (Roach) swam a couple of nice races, as well.”

Roach, a senior, was third in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.

Craig competes in the Janesville Parker Relays on Saturday.

n Middleton 129, Parker 41—The visiting Cardinals swept all 11 events in cruising to the Big Eight win.

Parker's Hailey Leisten was second in the 100 freestyle, and teammate Jana Burner was second in the 50 freestyle.

“It might not show it by the score, but I actually thought we had a pretty good meet,” Parker interim coach Meghan Bartel said. “Some of our times are starting to come down, and the girls are starting to compete like they are capable.

“It's still early in the season. As long as we continue to improve, we will be fine.”

The Vikings host the Parker Relays on Saturday.
