-- Parker third at Portage Invitational-Micayla Richards shot an 82 to lead Janesville Parker's girls golf team to a third-place finish at the Portage Invitational on Wednesday at the Portage Country Club.

"I really want to give kudos to Micayla," Parker coach Mary Ross said. "She had good sand play. She is coming into her own."

Ross said Verona, which won the team title, and runner-up Stoughton have strong 1-through-3 players, and finishing third was not a disappointment.

"We've never played this tournament, so it was a new experience," Ross said. "We're trying to challenge them this year. All in all, the kids managed very well."

Verona, behind a 1-under par 71 from medalist Jessica Reinecke, won the 14-team title with a 332 total. Stoughton was second at 336 and Parker third at 342.

Taylor Wyss added an 85 for Parker, Kailey McDade shot 87 and Lindsey Ahrens finished with an 88.
