EVANSVILLE—Investigators are calling the cause of the Saturday night fire that destroyed the press box at Evansville High School's football field 'undetermined,' said Capt. Todd Christiansen of the Rock County Sheriff's Office.

The fire caused an estimated $250,000 to $300,000 in damages, Superintendent Jerry Roth said Monday. The school district's insurance will cover most of the replacement costs, he said. The policy has a $25,000 deductible.

Friday night's home football game against Union Grove will go on as planned, Roth said.

A structural engineer will check the bleachers Tuesday to determine if they are safe, Roth said. Regardless of those findings, the district will bring in portable bleachers for as long as needed.

The remainder of the burnt-out shell of the press box will be razed today, Roth said.

Roth said Monday night that no cause has been ruled out, and he is waiting on an official cause from authorities.

The school board voted last week to name the facility Ron Grovesteen Field in honor of the school's longtime football coach.
