Caption left wrong impression of singer Hunter Hayes
I am a former Janesville area resident and Gazette subscriber, in no way affiliated with the Rock County 4-H Fair. I need to express my sheer disappointment and disgust over your caption accompanying a photo of Hunter Hayes on your front page Friday, July, 26.
The photograph shows Hunter Hayes with his eyes looking up while singing, and the caption reads, “Country singer Hunter Hayes rolls his eyes at the screaming girls while performing Thursday night at the Rock County 4-H Fair.” I stood in the first row, front center stage, with two excited teenage girls and can wholeheartedly testify that he was most certainly not rolling his eyes at the screaming girls.
He had the greatest facial expressions throughout the show as most talented musicians and performers do. I can not tell you how many times he looked at them and said, “I love you guys,” “Thank you everyone,” and “Janesville, you are the best!” We purchased meet and greets with Hunter. He was kind, gracious, and sincere—the most genuine and appreciative person.
Bottom line, I am disappointed to see such poor representation of The Gazette and community on your front page. I would be disgusted if someone not attending the show would be left with this false negative impression based on this single caption and photo taken out of context. Shame on The Gazette! This is unprofessional and poor journalism. Hunter Hayes is the real deal.
