Man arrested after dog shootings
JANESVILLE—Police officers from across the city rushed to the near east side Saturday night after a report that a man had shot his neighbor's two dogs.
Police Sgt. Todd Kleisner said he could not immediately release the man's identity.
One dog died and the other was wounded in the shootings in the 1400 block of Sharon Street, Kleisner said.
Police were called to the scene at 7:50 p.m. The man was thought to have left his home but later was found in his garage and was believed to be holding a rifle. He “eventually” surrendered, dropping the rifle, and was taken into custody without further incident at 8:30 p.m., Kleisner said.
“The neighborhood is safe. It's an isolated incident. The subject is in custody,” Kleisner said shortly after 9 p.m.
Police were still interviewing witnesses as The Gazette went to press Saturday, and Kleisner could not immediately report a motive for the shootings.
Kleisner said “pretty much the entire shift” of police officers responded to the call.
