UW-W Warhawks win softball opener against Finlandia Lions

— UW-Whitewater’s softball team started the Division III regional tournament in impressive fashion Thursday.

Samie Seamon hit a two-run homer and Katie Boyle and Bekka Houda combined on a five-hitter as the Warhawks cruised past Finlandia, 6-1, at van Steenderen Field. Whitewater (32-5) plays Luther (29-9) at 3 p.m. today in a winner’s bracket game.

Whitewater trailed 1-0 in the third before Morgan Krisch’s two-run single gave the Warhawks the lead for good at 2-1. Seamon belted her seventh home run of the season in fifth as the Warhawks pushed the lead to five.

Boyle went the first six innings to pick up the win, improving to 17-2 on the season. Houda pitched a scoreless seventh.
