MILTON—An hours-long rescue effort at the United Ethanol plant in Milton came to a tragic end as authorities recovered the body of a Janesville man who was trapped in a grain silo, officials reported late Friday night.

Emergency officials found the body of Jerad Guell, 27, of Janesville, according to a Milton Police Department press release.

Guell had gone missing at the plant before 11 a.m. Friday, and authorities feared he had become trapped in grain in a large silo at United Ethanol. The company processes corn into ethanol for fuel mixing.

Guell had worked at United for seven years. He leaves behind a spouse and a young son, according to police.

The Milton Police Department and OSHA plan a full investigation of the events that led to Guell’s death.
