WHITEWATER—An artist reception for Jason Van Roo will be held Thursday, Sept. 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Roberta's Art Gallery in the James R. Connor University Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The event will include Irish and folk music by Sargent Early's Dream, presented by musicians Chirps Smith, Ben Knowles, and Patrick Moran, who is also a professor of languages and literatures on campus.

Van Roo's exhibit, From a Clearing in the Woods, will be on display at the gallery through Sept. 11.

The artist has taken inspiration from the Wisconsin landscape and has used traditional, contemporary, and intuitive methods on salvaged wood, according to a release from the gallery.

He explained his work as, “a demonstration of the observable and the unobservable, the knowable and unknowable, with reverence for new understandings of timeless experiences through subject matter and material,” according to the release.

As always, exhibits and receptions are free and open to the public.

Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 6, Roberta's Art Gallery will return to the regular semester hours of Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
