Black Point hosts plein air event
LAKE GENEVA--Black Point Estate and Gardens is hosting its inaugural Plein Air Art invitational on Friday, Sept. 1. Visitors may choose from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. or from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A trolley will depart from Reek School, W4094 South Lakeshore Drive, Lake Geneva.
This event will feature live painting by Mary Beth Bellon, Bethann Handzlik, Martha Hayden, Frankie Johnson, Gary Kincaid, Nancy Newcomb, Cora Rafe, and Thomas Trausch.
“We feel that art and history are a perfect match and really look forward to seeing how these artists interpret the landscape and architecture of the site,” said Dave Desimone, the estate's director.
Visitors can also enjoy hors d'oeuvres provided by Celebrations on Wells and German wines and Wisconsin beers on the estate's newly restored veranda.
They can wander through the home's interiors, enjoying summer living from a bygone era. Docents will be in place to offer interpretation on the history of the estate.
Music will be provided by Diane Lewis on the estate's 1911 Chickering piano.
“We wanted to create an event evocative of a grand Victorian garden party and hope to make this an annual end of summer event,” Desimone said.
