Beloit Snappers strand 13 Timber Rattlers
The Beloit Snappers had more runs than hits Sunday, but two of the hits were home runs as Beloit beat in-state rival Wisconsin 4-2.
The Timber Rattlers had 13 hits in the contest but were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 13 runners on base. The Snappers, on the other hand, only needed three hits to score their four runs.
Ryan Mathews had his third home run in two games with a two-run blast in the seventh that put Beloit ahead 4-1.
Preston Gainey pitched seven strong innings for Wisconsin, the Midwest League affiliate of the Brewers, but took the tough-luck loss. Touted prospect Clint Coulter was 3-for-4 as the designated hitter for the Timber Rattlers.
