No Middleton golfer shot worse than 2-over, and the Cardinals downed Janesville Parker, 146-176, in a Big Eight girls golf match Friday.

“Middleton shot out of their minds today,” Parker coach Mary Ross said. “I don't think I've ever played a team in my five years when all five players were in the 30s.”

Playing at the par-36 Pleasant View, all four Middleton golfers shot 38 or better, including Morgan Narowetz, who led all players with a 1-under 35.

Ross said the Vikings played well but couldn't keep up with the Cardinals' amazing day.

“I have a young team this year, and they averaged an eight-stroke improvement over last year,” Ross said. “I'm very happy where our kids are. They know the areas they have to work on.”

Senior captain Kailey McDade paced the Vikings with a 2-over 38.

Parker plays in a Waunakee invite Monday.

• Craig 211, East inc.—Janesville Craig opened the Big Eight Conference girls golf season with a victory over a short-handed Madison East squad at Monona Golf Club.

Jorden Roscovius led the Cougars with a 48.

Craig coach Domanic Wiegel said his squad is deep, with many golfers capable of playing on the varsity.

“We have 19 girls out, which is one of the higher numbers in the conference,” Wiegel said. “They are very close in ability. We have about 10 girls that can shoot in the low 50s, which makes it difficult for a coach.

“Our jayvee squad could be our varsity,” Wiegel said.

The Cougars play in the Waunakee Invitational on Monday.
