DARIEN--Special Methods In Learning Equine Skills, a therapeutic riding center in Darien, is looking for volunteers who are interested in working with horses and individuals with special needs.

S.M.I.L.E.S. provides classes and programs in therapeutic riding and equine-assisted activities to people of all ages who have special needs.

The organization will begin its fall session Monday, Sept. 29. Volunteers are needed to help with classes, which are offered Monday through Saturday, morning and evening. Volunteers assist by grooming and saddling the horses, then help students by leading the horse, or walking alongside the student to give extra support.

No horse experience is required, but volunteers must be 15 years of age or older, and complete a volunteer training session.
