JANESVILLE—Police have made an arrest in a burglary in which jewelry and other goods valued at more than $50,000 were taken from a home.

Jose A. Ruiz, 33, of 1236 Highland Ave., Janesville, was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of receiving stolen property.

Police believe others were involved in the March burglary on the city's northwest side and continue to investigate, said Lt. Keith Lawver of the Janesville police detective bureau.

While executing a search warrant, police found goods at Ruiz's residence that were taken in the Janesville burglary as well as burglaries at a rural Rotamer Road residence and in Cambridge, Lawver said.

Ruiz also was arrested on misdemeanor charges of receiving stolen property and possession of marijuana. He was arrested at the Rock County Jail, where he was in custody on a probation hold, Lawver said.

The burglary was reported March 19, when the homeowner came home to find cabinet doors open and clothing thrown on the floor, according to a police report.

Missing property included a Playstation video game system, tires and rims for a GMC Yukon and custom-made Nike sneakers.

Ruiz is expected to make his initial court appearance Monday.
