Snappers avoid sweep with ninth-inning home run
GENEVA, Ill.—The Beloit Snappers were about to let a strong pitching performance by Lou Trivino and Joseph Michaud go by the wayside.
The two combined to allow two runs on three hits in eight innings, but the Snappers found themselves trailing 2-1 and down to their last out with a runner on against the Kane County Cougars.
That’s when right fielder Tyler Marincov hit his 10th home run of the season to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead. Bobby Wahl pitched the ninth to earn his third save and avert a five-game sweep.
Matt Chapman, a first-round pick of the Oakland A’s in the 2014 draft, had three hits in the game for the Snappers.
Beloit is off today and starts a three-game series at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Dayton.
