October 6, 1964 – July 10, 2014

Royce Kingsley DeBow, Jr., age 49, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at home in Delavan, WI. He was born October 6, 1964, in Evanston, IL, the first son of Royce Kingsley and Donna Kay (Shafer) DeBow.

Royce was an adoring husband to Jillane (Kleinschmidt) DeBow, and proud father to Rachel (14) and Wyatt (12), devotedly supporting them in all their interests of dance, music, acting, art, photography, sports, fishing and hunting. Royce had many diverse interests, from politics to TV broadcasting to debate coach. His multifaceted career began in the U.S. Navy, where he was trained in broadcast journalism, serving two years in Iceland during the height of the Cold War, where he produced award-winning news segments. After returning home, he worked for the Milwaukee TV news and later ran his own video production and communications business. Later, he gravitated toward politics, earned a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and worked in the office of Wisconsin State Assemblyman Tom Lothian. Most recently, Royce worked as Governmental Affairs Director for southeastern Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Realtors Association, as well as an adjunct professor teaching political science courses for Upper Iowa University. Civic-minded and generous with his time and skills, he served on the Boards of the Lakeshores Library System and Community Action of Rock and Walworth Counties, and volunteered at S.M.I.L.E.S. (Special Methods in Learning Equine Skills.) For two decades, he coached and judged high school debate. Royce took time to listen with care and love. He was an enlightening and engaging conversationalist, a true treasure to family and friends. His smile lit up a room.

Royce is also survived by his mother; sister, Pamela L. DeBow and her children: Drew DeBow, and Alana and Robbee Huston; his brother, James B. (Jody) DeBow and their children, Emily, Tristan and Jake; his first wife and mother of his children, Jacqueline (Elle) DeBow; as well as a number of aunts, uncles and cousins
