Pearl M. Bier, age 88, of Janesville, died on Monday, June 30, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home. She was born in Chicago, on May 26, 1926, the daughter of John and Marie (Gunkel) Casper. She has been a Janesville resident since 1944. She married Eugene P. Bier in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Janesville, on May 3, 1947, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1975. They had farmed together for many years in Harmony Township. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Pearl had worked as a Librarian for the Milton School District. She was a member of the Homemakers Club, the YMCA Swimmers, and active with the Janesville Literacy Council, helping tutor young students learn to read. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, walking, sewing, reading, baking, and her number one priority in life was her faith and her family. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a switchboard operator, candled eggs, and did wallpapering. She was also a woodwork finisher for her brother, John. Pearl was known for her wonderful homemade krispies that were given with love to everyone who came to visit her.

Pearl is survived by her six children: Margaret (Larry) Burdette of Janesville, Eugene (Connie) Bier of Milton, Ginny (Jarrett) Goodman of Milton, Kathleen Bier of Janesville, Christine (Mark) Metcalf of Janesville, and Sharon (Larry) Hargarten of Clinton; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, John Casper of Janesville; and sister, Marie Albanese of Crystal Lake, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Laverne Falcone.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Janesville, with Rev. Stephen Umhoefer and Rev. Tom Marr officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon at the CHURCH.
