Joel S. Gordon, Beloit, WI (1938-2014)

Joel S. Gordon, age 75, of Beloit, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2014, in his home. He was born July 15, 1938, to the late William S. and Martha (Miller) Gordon in Rockford, IL. Joel attended Delavan High School, class of 1957. He received an honorable discharge from the National Guard. He, then, enlisted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 15, 1961, and served his Country until his second honorable discharge on August 10, 1962. Joel married Marcella (Marcy) Miller on April 20, 1996, in Beloit. He managed a machine shop for many years, worked part time as a tax accountant and was employed at Durst as a machinist for 18 years until his retirement in 2003. Joel was a member of the Beloit Moose Club and the Beloit Horse Shoe Club. Joel enjoyed spending time in their log cabin home, woodworking, creating stained glass pieces and short trips to unfamiliar destinations.
Joel is survived by his wife, Marcella Gordon; his three children: Debra (Bob) Stevenson, Jody (Scott) Trost and Lori (Scott) Schultz; his four grandchildren: Derik, Rachael, Steven and Jason; and Marcy’s four children: Robert (Dawn) Trewyn, Bradley (Danita) Trewyn, Rodney (Nicole) Trewyn, Wayne (Krista) Trewyn; and her four grandchildren: Mitchell, Nathan, Dustin and Dalton. He is also survived by his brother, Douglas (Kathy) Gordon; his sister, Wilma (Don) Betts; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joel’s Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014, at the BRIAN G. MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit, with Rev. Wendee Nitz officiating. Friends will be received on Friday at the FUNERAL HOME from 8 a.m. until the time of service. Following Joel’s service the cortege will proceed to Floral Lawns Cemetery for burial and Full Military Burial Rites. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Joel's name.
