Alcohol compliance effort nets five arrests
JANESVILLE—The Janesville Police Department took five Janesville residents into custody during a sting on people who violate terms of their probation by consuming alcohol, authorities said.
According to a news release, during a set of alcohol compliance checks Friday by Janesville police and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, police arrested:
-- Kenneth Swan, 41, Janesville, who was drinking alcohol at home. He was on probation for homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Swan also was arrested for a probation violation in 2012 of drinking at a tavern.
-- Latasha Cole, 26, of Janesville who was drinking alcohol at a residence. She was on probation for prostitution.
-- William Edwards, 43, Janesville for drinking alcohol at home. He was on probation for five drunken driving convictions.
-- David Walberg, 51, Janesville, for drinking alcohol at home. He was on probation for battery, theft and operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent.
-- Scott Ruud, 54, Janesville, for drinking alcohol at home. He was on probation for five prior drunken driving arrests.
The five were being held at the Rock County jail, according to the release.
In the sting, police checked up on 25 Janesville residents whose probation rules prohibit them from consuming alcohol.
According to the release, police found three taverns that were operating without licensed bartenders.
