Harvard Milk Days is just around the corner — June 6-8.

The events include a carnival, a parade, dairy exhibits, a tractor display and vent some enjoyable exercise. You can get in on the Milk Run, taking place Saturday, June 7. Courses include the 2-mile walk and run, 10K run, Kid's Dash 50M and the 100M dash.

Also on Saturday, June 7, the popular Orion Samuelson once again will be the emcee at the brunch, which begins at 10 a.m. at the Harvard Moose Lodge. Make your reservation at the Milk Days office at (815) 943-4614.

The Community Church service will be held Sunday, June 8, in the entertainment tent on the Milk Days grounds. The public is invited to attend the 10 a.m. service.

The grand marshal for this year's parade will be Jan Comer, who has served the Harvard and Hebron area for more than 35 years as a rescue and fire personnel. Be sure to wave at Jan as she and her grandsons ride by in Harvard's Model A fire truck during Saturday's parade.

During Milk Days, the carnival and midway, held at the Milk Days grounds, is always a big draw, and, if you act fast, you can save some bucks by buying wristband tickets in advance. They will be on sale through June 5, during the Big Wheel races and bed race finals on June 4. The final sales will be held till 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, during the youth parade.   

Tractors in working condition, restored and original as well as equipment will be on display during the festival. Many of these also will be in the parade.

Of course, there will be dairy cows at this event; the Milk Days junior dairy cattle show will take place on Sunday, June 8, beginning at noon at Milky Way Park. For an entry form, visit

Fireworks will close out the festival with a  mini display on Saturday, June 7, at 10 p.m. The grand finale fireworks show will be Sunday, June 8, at 10 p.m.
