Big Foot/Williams Bay's Lauterbach wins to open state tennis
Big Foot/Williams Bay High’s Seb Lauterbach is on to the second round of the WIAA Division 2 state individual tennis tournament.
The Chiefs senior won his first match Thursday, topping McFarland’s Tim Vallon, 6-2, 6-3.
Lauterbach, the No. 8 seed and lone area winner Thursday, will take on Eau Claire Regis’ Hunter Cameron at 11 a.m. today. Cameron beat Wisconsin Lutheran’s Christian Timm, 6-3, 6-2.
Janesville Parker’s No. 1 doubles team of Nick Garey and Sam Buck took the second set of their first round match to the late stage but fell 6-4, 7-6 (0) to Kenosha Indian Trail’s Noah Bloedorn and Kurtis Larson.
“They represented Parker well at state,” Parker coach Mike Fuhrmann said. “Buck played the best match of his career, and they really jelled well as a team.
“A couple of points here and there were the difference.”
Milton’s doubles teams of Eric Berthiaume and Eric Grote and Ken Yap and Sean Grote also fell in their first-round matches.
