HS baseball: Badger avenges loss to open regionals

What a difference five days makes.

The Lake Geneva Badger baseball team lost a Southern Lakes Conference game to Union Grove 10-0 on Thurday. But it bounced back Tuesday to beat the same team 4-3 in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal game.

The 11th-seeded Badgers will play at Kenosha Bradford in a regional final Thursday.

Starting pitcher John Laskowski threw a complete-game six-hitter with one strikeout and two walks to help Badger advance.

Levi Burnette cleared the bases with a double in the fifth inning to give the Badgers a 3-2 lead, and they tacked on another run in the sixth before holding on for the victory.

•  Beloit 3, Elkhorn 0—The host Purple Knights got a five-hit shutout from Logan Johnson to win their regional semifinal.

J.C. Hughes had an RBI triple for Beloit.

•  Madison West 9, Milton 2—The host Regents scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings to knock out the ninth-seeded Red Hawks.

Drew Rust threw two scoreless innings and had a double for Milton.

Janesville Parker will host West in a regional final at Riverside Park at 5 p.m. Thursday.

•  Turner 10, Brodhead/Juda 0 (5)—Left fielder Cole Gerber went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run to lead the third-seeded Trojans to a home victory.

Jameson Fell gave up five hits and struck out seven in the complete-game, five-inning shutout.

Turner plays at Edgerton at 4:45 p.m. today.

•  Clinton 10, Monroe 4—The Cougars used a seven-run sixth inning to put away the visiting Cheesemakers in a regional opener.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth, freshman Peyton Pope opened the scoring with an RBI single. Garrett Pass and Marc Eliszewski later followed with two-run singles, sandwiched around freshman Caleb Broege's run-scoring knock.

Eliszewski threw a complete game for Clinton, which travels to play Big Foot at 4:45 p.m. today.

•  Columbus 6, Evansville 1—Errors doomed the sixth-seeded Blue Devils in a Division 2 regional quarterfinal loss at Columbus.

Four Evansville errors led to five unearned runs in the game.

The Blue Devils finished 8-18 overall.

•  Parkview 7, Belleville 4—Orfordville Parkview scored seven unearned runs to down visiting Belleville 7-4 in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal baseball game Tuesday night.

The Vikings (9-14) play at No. 1-seed Wisconsin Heights today.

Parkview senior Nick Henning went 2-for-3, including a double.

Brady Mielke allowed just two earned runs and four hits to earn the victory.
